2022's Beauty Beasts

If there's one thing we know, it's that beauty brands come and go. Best seller items can fade away into oblivion after the 'hype' dies, and it's hard to take recommendations when everyone's being paid to say one thing- when they really mean the other.

Beauty and skincare have been going hand in hand, and more brands are going out of their way to reformulate & release new products that fit the wellness-rich market; making sustainable swaps, going green, cutting out cruelty, and even embracing the no-makeup makeup wave, there's a trend for all to follow.

Here's a map beauty and skincare trends we here at @atticdiaries see doing well.

1. minimal skincare.

we are moving on from the lengthy 10 step skincare routines. if we didn't already see the turn to minimalism in 2021, we are for sure seeing it this year. let's be real, how much of what you put on your skin actually needs to be there?

see what you can do to cut down on your skincare in our upcoming articles!

2. hair care for the win!

the focus on skincare has been thriving, and it's time for the IT girls to shift their pampering to their hair. hair oiling, styling, and protection have been some of the most researched topics in the last few months- so has the curly girl method! from natural Ayurvedic cures and massages to high end shampoos and leave ins, get ready to go natural. PS. this does not include the craze over the Dyson airwrap!

3. purrrrfume!

c'mon, we can't be the only ones on perfumetok, right?

more and more people have been researching how to find their signature scents- classic viral perfumes like Juliet Has A Gun and Baccarat Rouge 540 have been sharing the spotlight with other upcoming bottles.

finding a scent that feels like you is difficult, but the world of tiktok is making it significantly easier! find a perfume for all your day-to-day fantasies right here.

4. creamy, melt into your face blush.

you remember the over-blushing phase we all went through early pandemic? yeah. that's coming back, but in a super chic that girl way.

cream blush is making a come-back- being pushed by brands like rare beauty and NARS, having a natural looking fresh flush face is catching on!

cream or liquid blush is also quickly becoming a staple product in most 'clean girl' and femme makeup looks.

5. clutch those pearls.

pearls are a rising fav, and we're seeing them more and more in necklaces, earrings, and even editorial fashion looks. maybe it's the simplicity, the sheen, or the vintage vibes- whatever it is, we've been loving them on absolutely everybody.

shop some of our favorite pearly jewelry at mahajabeen.co, a dear friend of the attic diaries.

6. period!

literally, period; with all that time to listen to our bodies, everyone with a menstrual cycle had time on their hands to learn more about the cycles they operate on! in 2022, we expect to see a lot more period-focused routines, advice, information, and wellness based content.

from syndromes like PCOS to disorders like endometriosis, there's more space to discuss and educate on menstrual related health. we see this as an absolute win.

7. bleached brows.

yes, we know you've seen those filters too. bleached brows are and always have been popular in the avant-garde, alt, performer world. look to those communities to see how to style and pull off the bleach brow look!

2022 will see some super creative changes; consider this one of the tame ones among shaved heads, dyed buzzcuts, and old fashioned 70's punk Mohawks. these styles go hand in hand with the wave of apocalyptic-core fashion we're seeing lately!

remember, do not attempt to bleach your brows at home if you are not experienced.

8. trendless!

ironically, refusing to fit into the trend is a trend. we get it, though; trend cycles are wasteful and difficult to keep track of, and it's a lot easier to be yourself and try fit into what you truly

are interested in. you won't know what you're into before you try, though, so always be open to experiencing new things.

wearing what you're comfortable in and doing your makeup and self-care the way you know you like it is a wonderful reoccurring answer we've been seeing.

break out of the box, do you!

less people are feeling suffocated by the need to be on top of things, and more are simply figuring out what it is that works for them. maybe its the 2016 brow dip or even the 2018 matte lip craze, whatever it is it works for them and we love it.

9. terracotta soldiers, metal sailors

in terms of color.... oh boy. we're seeing the rise of earth tones (of course) but we're also seeing a rise of glitter, metallics, and bold monochrome. Think

colored liner, dark orange blush, and more solid blue eyeshadow looks. we love!

color trends come and go, and it's always easy to bring some of them back; a big one coming back in is purple! this one stands out a tad bit more than the earth and metal tones, and that's because we're seeing it in the blush world.

color theory shows us that purple blush actually compliments the natural tones in your face. who'd have thought?

10. slugging!

what the *@%! is slugging? well, it's a fun method of sealing all your pm routine skincare into your face overnight. the process is simple; double cleanse, apply your serums, the moisturizer, then wait a couple minutes before applying a thin coat of an occlusive substance to your face. this could be vaseline, aquaphor, or any thick creams/lotions that contain a similar make-up of vaseline.

this treatment is great for repairing your skin barrier, and especially helps if you've got dry, damaged skin. wash it off in the morning with water and feel more smooth your skin is!

and that brings us to the end of our 2022 trend list! stay tuned for more on these- we've got upcoming video tutorials, reels, and comprehensive posts with everything you need to know about your favorite breakthrough product or style!
