So, since two people asked me about skincare in a row, my ego inflated and I decided to start writing a small blog about things like this. Here's my skincare routine in detail, followed by some random bits of information that'll hopefully inspire you to add or take away from your own routine. I should mention of course; my skin type is dehydrated combo, & is not clear yet- this routine is what's been clearing it up.
In the mornings (which now start by 8 am for me) I rinse my face off with cold water. Cold specifically, to tighten and really wake me up. This also helps to de-puff, helps skin rejuvenation, and promotes blood flow to the face. As I will inevitably spend the day at my desk or joining my class calls in bed, I let my face air dry. While yes, it is annoying to have a wet face for longer than a few minutes, it is a better alternative to using a towel or tissue papers.
Towels can be harsh and/or dirty, which of course doesn't help acne at all- and tissues, although they are gentler, absorb a lot of moisture from your skin when you pat down on it. Allowing your skin to absorb all possible moisture is definitely the way to go, and it also ensures you minimize the amount of contact you have with your skin- avoiding wrinkles, bacteria transfers, etc.
On a normal, non quarantine day, I'd put on some moisturizer & SPF and call it complete, but I haven't been outside in a month and a half. so.
I will say, though, my favorite SPF is probably La Roche Posay's Shaka Fluid. It retails for about 70/75 dhs for 50 ml. Super hydrating, no white residue, brilliant absorption into the skin, love it. Anyway!
The rest of the day goes by relatively fast, and around 4 I'll do a round of yoga or stretching. Lately I've been following @dryp_ae 's IG live sessions, for which I make sure to sweat every three days- meaning I crank up the heat as well as use a steamer (check noon.com for a simple facial steamer) for my face. I consider the whole event to be a body cleanser, since sweat is the best natural detox you can give your skin.
After I'm done, I'll get into the shower for a bit- I'll let the water heat up and while the water's opening up my pores, I wash my face with a gentle cleanser (Forest Essentials' Rosewater wash) and then apply Lush's Mask of Magnaminty in the shower itself. The rest of the shower consists of me trying not to get my face wet. The rest of the shower routine goes on as it normally does- shampoo, conditioner, etc; towards the end of it I'll rinse the conditioner AND the mask off with cold water. I let my face and hair air-dry, and put on a layer of moisturizer- then head downstairs to eat and watch Arrow with my mother.
The last few steps of the routine are as follows: I mix vitamin C serum (two drops) and pure rosehip oil (one drop) into some moisturizer and I mix it together and massage it gently into my face.
Thats basically it, but as of April 8th I've been using that Aztec clay mask with apple cider vinegar twice weekly, which has been helping beautifully- I use it during the 'school day', meaning while my teacher is explaining the effects of trauma on our sanity, I am applying a face mask, tearing up because of the smell of ACV, and taking notes at the same time. Recently I've also been making healthier snacks and smoothies (up until Ramadan started of course) which has also helped a lot.
Stay safe!
